Much has already been revealed about the disgraceful performance of second- and third-ranking Russian politicians at the talks in Istanbul. Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyzlytsia has now made another public statement. According to him, the Kremlin is pretending Ukraine doesn't exist.
According to Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Serhiy Kyzlytsia, the Russian delegation at the round of negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul claimed that in war, "Russians kill Russians with certain nuances." According to Kyzlytsia, the Kremlin is thus denying the existence of Ukraine.
"They tell you to your face: You're not Ukrainian, you're Russian," said the Deputy Foreign Minister in an interview with the media outlet "We are Ukraine." At the end of 1991, the country's population voted overwhelmingly for independence from the former Soviet Union in a referendum. Russian President Vladimir Putin once described the collapse of the Soviet Union as the "greatest geopolitical catastrophe of the 20th century."
Kyslytsia continued that the Kremlin delegation in Istanbul had issued threats, cynicism, and immoral statements "in an almost uninterrupted stream." He also reported pseudo-historical digressions by the representatives from Moscow. Such digressions are also popular with Putin, as was particularly evident in an interview with Fox News host Tucker Carlson last year.
Russia threatened to kill relativesBefore Kyslytsia's interview, other details from the conversation had already become known. According to them, the Russian side was not interested in seriously working on a path to peace. Instead, they formulated familiar, maximum demands and attempted to exert pressure on the Ukrainians with blatant statements.
For example, Kyslytsia confirmed US media reports that representatives from Moscow had threatened that members of the Ukrainian delegation could lose additional relatives in the war . According to Kyiv, Russia had also demanded the four regions in the east of the country and, in case of refusal, threatened to lay claim to several additional regions.
